SANTA MONICA — Will Rogers Learning Community Principal Lila Debrutti presented highlights and initiatives from her neighborhood elementary school, emphasizing curricular alignment, community partnerships and student supports.
Debrutti said the school has deepened International Baccalaureate work, aligned district-adopted curricula (Benchmark, UFLI, Amplify Science), and focused on grade-level questioning routines and inquiry-based units. She described a regenerative farm on campus developed with community partners and noted a $10,000 community grant through Sprouts to expand the garden program.
Debrutti and staff credited an increase in family engagement and volunteerism: more than 305 PTA members (an increase from prior year) and more than 400 trained parent volunteers. She also said English learner progress on the ELPAC rose by over 35% in the year cited and credited targeted interventions and ELOP funding.
Board members thanked Debrutti and asked no substantive follow-up questions. The principal invited board members and the public to visit the campus and the farm.
