Long-range planner Tay Harris told commissioners the department will mail postcards and post online surveys next week to gather public input on Town Center Master Plan updates for Owings, Huntingtown and Saint Leonard.
"The Department of Planning and Zoning will mail postcards in July next week and post an online survey from mid July to mid August for the Town Center Master Plan updates," Harris said.
Staff explained the surveys will ask residents about how long they have lived in the town center, what they see as the biggest challenges, and whether certain areas (for example parts of Owings) should remain designated as a town center or be designated as a rural commercial district. Commissioners asked whether mailings target only town-center residents or full ZIP codes; staff said mailings go to the entire ZIP code.
The presentation included proposed map changes such as subdistricts for mixed-use core, neighborhood residential, open space and a proposed expansion area near St. Edward Elementary in Saint Leonard. Staff said findings will be returned to the commission later this year for further direction.
