Commissioner David Persons reported that the Kalkaska County Road Commission revised a previously discussed request upward from $18 million to $19 million. Commissioners expressed differing views: Commissioner Sieting voiced concern about approving the request without significant reductions while Commissioner Baldwin said the Road Commission's management is "highly respected" and the request may be necessary. Commissioner Matley noted strong constituent opposition to funding an entirely new structure and urged exploring alternatives.
On motion by Jeff Sieting, supported by David Comai, the board scheduled a Special Meeting for March 26, 2026 at 5:00 PM in the Kaliseum Conference Room "for purpose to review Kalkaska County Road Commission millage funding request." The board also voted to cancel the March 31, 2026 special meeting. No millage resolution was adopted at the March 18 meeting; the special meeting will be the forum for formal consideration.
