Committee approves measure to require schools to report assessments and create review board

Chair Leader White told the committee SB2403 would require each public school to submit a list of standardized assessments annually to the Department of Education so the department can publish the inventory online. "This will require each public school to submit a list of assessments administered to their students to the DOE annually on all standardized tests," White said.
The bill also limits the use of state-approved screeners in favor of the Tennessee universal reader screener and state-adopted benchmark assessments. It establishes an Assessment Review Board made up of non-public-school teachers that may review TCAP questions if 65% of students statewide answer a question incorrectly. Senator Rose moved a verbal amendment to rename the board the 'Assessment Review Board for the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program,' which the committee adopted; the bill then passed on a roll-call vote and moves to the Senate Education Committee.
