Board updates food- and waterborne outbreak investigation policy to reflect electronic reporting

Staff presented a revised food- and waterborne outbreak investigation policy that the department said had not been fully updated since 2017. The director explained the changes were intended to align local procedures with state electronic disease-reporting systems (WEDS) and with updates to the agent program. "This food and waterborne outbreak, policy was last revised in 2017," the director noted.
During discussion the board reviewed redline edits and staff explained that yellow text would be removed and red text represented new language. A motion to approve the revised policy was made and carried by voice vote, with the board directing staff to cite the appropriate enforcement statute language in specific sections noted on pages 48–49.
The updated policy is intended to standardize how the department receives, documents and communicates outbreak information internally and to affected establishments; staff said they would circulate the final document and follow the state reporting protocols going forward.
