The county engineer presented recommendations for several annual public-works bids, including traffic striping (thermal and paint combinations), guardrail, HMA paving and surface treatments. Staff recommended Highway Management Systems for striping, Alabama Guardrail for guardrail work, Wiregrass Construction for HMA paving and Charles E. Watts for surface treatment work.
Commissioners asked about thermoplastic spec limits and when certain materials can be applied (temperature windows) and supported increased use of pavement reflectors in fog-prone stretches such as Pine Mountain. The commission approved the engineers' recommendations by motion.
