The Union County Public Schools Policy Committee met Aug. 4, 2026, via Zoom and moved six policy changes to the full Board of Education for fast-track consideration at tonight’s board meeting. Chair Reverend Kirkpatrick opened the session, confirmed a quorum and called for routine approvals before staff reviewed the policy package.
Staff described one item already at second review—Policy 5-16, intended to cover field trips tied to summer-camp or after-school programs—and five policies at first review that reflect recent statutory changes. “The proposed added to this policy allows us to address field trips that happen in the context of summer camp or after school programs that may not need a curricular attachment to it, but yet we still want to ensure they are complying with all district policies,” a staff member said.
Staff told the committee they had not received stakeholder feedback since the policies were last presented and that internal stakeholders had reviewed the drafts. After the presentations, the committee voted by voice to forward the package to the full board for consideration under the district’s fast-track procedure, so the policies can take effect for the upcoming school year if adopted.
The committee scheduled its next meeting for Aug. 18, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. via Zoom and adjourned.
