Garland council selects economic focus areas to begin plan implementation

As the first implementation step for the new 10-year strategic plan, the Garland City Council approved staff-recommended economic focus areas to guide concentrated investment and programming over the next one to two years.
The Garland City Council on June 16 approved the staff-recommended economic focus areas intended as the first implementation step for the newly adopted strategic plan.
City Manager Betts described the selection as "the places where we will focus our efforts in the next year or two and begin to improve economic conditions in those areas," and said staff used data to make recommendations. Mayor Pro Tem Luck moved to approve the selection and Councilmember Carraway seconded; the council voted unanimously.
Staff said these focus areas will inform prioritized investments and be the basis for staff reports on programs, partnerships and possible incentive use. The council did not adopt specific financial commitments at the meeting; those will be considered in later budget or program proposals.
