Council selects economic focus areas to begin implementing strategic plan

Following adoption of the strategic plan, council considered item 7: selection of economic focus areas. City Manager Michael J. Betts described the exercise as the council's first duty under the strategic plan to choose places where staff will focus efforts in the next one to two years.
"Last night, we made recommendations...and tonight we would ask the council to select economic focus areas in accordance with the recommendations we made," Betts said. Mayor Pro Tem Margaret Luck moved to approve the areas discussed at the work session; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Justin Carraway and approved unanimously. Staff and managing director Becky King were present to answer questions; none were raised during the motion.
Council recorded the selection and directed staff to proceed with the recommended priorities and to return with implementation milestones.
