Resident raises concern about Dairy Queen demolition in Aurora; planning staff says permits were filed

During public comment, William Gregory Wilson II told commissioners he was concerned that a Dairy Queen on U.S. 50 was torn down without county notice and said checks and balances were needed to prevent unexpected demolitions that leave properties unusable.
"Apparently, there was no nobody informed me that they couldn't do that," Wilson said, urging the county to consider regulations that could prevent similar outcomes. Nicole Daley of Dearborn County Planning and Zoning responded that the property owner had filed for and received a demolition permit and a grading permit from the City of Aurora and that planning staff helped coordinate permitting. "They actually just received all their permits through zoning, MS4, so on water," she said, and added, "So we anticipate the building going back up here within the next month." County staff said INDOT would be involved in roadway issues while the county's MS4 coordinator would work with Aurora on stormwater questions.
Commissioners acknowledged the concern and noted that city and state authorities had roles in permitting and oversight.
