Dearborn County approves 2027 interlocal fire-protection agreement with Harrison, cites 6% increase

The Dearborn County Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 4 to approve a 2027 interlocal fire-protection agreement with the City of Harrison.
Chief Hong Son, representing Harrison, told the board the proposal "represents a 6% increase" and said the department is seeing rising costs across the board. "That that barely covers the cost of 1 full time employee for us," he said, describing how the department often provides a full complement of resources beyond contractual ambulance responses to protect responders and the public.
Commissioner Kevin moved to approve the agreement; Kevin stated the contract amount as "For $180,001.54." The chair seconded the motion and it carried by voice vote. Commissioners discussed how growth along the '52 Corridor' and development in the TIF district could affect coverage responsibilities and the need to coordinate with Harrison Township.
