Board grants conditional use for Anderson's Towing at 300 Avondodge Drive

The Village Board on Oct. 8 approved a conditional use permit ordinance allowing Anderson's Towing to locate at 300 Avondodge Drive in an I2 zoning district.
Planning staff told the board the property includes a 130-by-130-foot gravel area, parking both inside and outside a security fence, and a building currently occupied by Hammer Express. Staff said Anderson's would occupy office space and use part of the lot for three semi-truck parking spaces and additional vehicle storage; "they're planning to have anywhere between 10 and 50 total vehicles," the planner said, though she added she did not expect Anderson's to reach the 50-car scenario.
Staff described Anderson's as a long-established local business that tows for individuals, body shops and police and noted a Planning & Zoning Commission recommendation in favor of approval. The applicant was present and had no additional comments beyond staff's presentation.
The board moved and passed the ordinance on a roll-call vote that recorded unanimous yes votes for the item. The action grants Anderson's the right to seek the conditional-use permit and move forward with required Planning & Zoning public hearings and conditions associated with a conditional use.
The ordinance approval implements a text amendment earlier on the agenda to allow towing as a conditional use in the I2 district and does not itself waive subsequent conditional-use public-hearing requirements or permit conditions.
