Kalkaska County offers free space for SBA flood assistance after spring flooding

County commissioners approved providing free office space (desk and internet) for Small Business Administration staff to meet residents affected by spring flooding for about eight weeks while FEMA funding is pending.
Emergency Services Director Doug Pratt told the board that numerous site visits had identified a need for a staffed SBA presence so affected residents could apply for emergency loans after spring flooding. Pratt said the outreach would require internet access and desk space for approximately an eight-week period while FEMA funding is still pending.
Commissioner Jeff Sieting moved to provide a county location at no charge for SBA to meet with residents; the board approved the motion 6-0 with one commissioner absent. The county will host the SBA office for no charge and has not yet finalized specific weekday hours or exact room assignments.
