Senate committee approves adding State Board review for priority schools

Senate Bill 2047 was described to the Government Operations Committee as a change to the process for handling priority schools that are not meeting academic targets.
Senator Pote said the bill requires the commissioner of education to make recommendations to the State Board of Education after the commissioner's review; the State Board would then make the final decision and implement the plan. "So there's a 2nd set of eyes that's gonna look at this, and it'll be the State Board of Education that's gonna make the final determination and implement the plan," he said.
The committee took a roll call vote with the clerk recording eight ayes and one absent. The measure was sent to the Education Committee.
