Work group recommends limited 2% funding for three nonprofits, denies other requests

The Douglas County Nonprofit Funding Policy Work Group met March 31 and reviewed statutory guidance and an Attorney General opinion that frame what county funds may support. After reviewing annual financials and nine 2026 funding applications, the group recommended three referrals for funding equal to 2% of each organization’s annual budget and denied several other requests.
The work group recommended funding 2% of annual budgets for Faith United Methodist Church dba Harbor House Crisis Shelters ($5,734.16), Douglas County Community Health Clinic ($6,442.56) and the Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse (CASDA) ($27,759.64); each referral was sent to the Executive/Administration Capital Projects meeting with a Corporation Counsel review where noted. Other requests — including Nemadji Cemetery Association ($10,000), Salvation Army Superior ($2,000), Vacationland Fire Peer Support ($10,000), Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity ($40,000) and Children’s Dyslexia Center ($10,000) — were denied or routed to alternate funding sources after the work group determined they did not meet Douglas County statutory authority or were better served by other grant programs.
