Health department outlines 2025 strategy, agent program expansion and water-sample results

Amy Kleiber, Vernon County Health Officer, briefed the board on the department's 2025 strategic work and program priorities.
Kleiber said the team is reviewing objectives and the strategic plan for 2025 and that the agent program continues to grow; the department is developing a plan to help ensure coverage. She noted that an RN on staff is studying for the RS examination and that job descriptions are being updated to reflect core public-health fundamentals. Kleiber said the department will chair a Compass Now assessment in partnership with United Way and is discussing a collaboration with Iowa County to address nitrate regulation once the relevant code is updated.
Kleiber provided a specific operational metric: the department collected 827 water samples for bacteria and/or nitrate testing during 2024. Board members did not record formal action on the strategic plan at this meeting; items appear to be in planning and coordination stages ahead of future work.
