Village authorizes $5.2M appropriation toward US 52 / Route 59 corridor improvements

The Village Board approved a resolution authorizing a $5,200,000 appropriation to support Shorewood’s share of preliminary engineering and design for the US 52 / Route 59 (River Road to Hobolt) corridor project.
Public Works Director Nori Akins described the project scope — widening US 52 to four lanes, adding a center median, a mixed-use path and intersection widening at 52 and 59 — and said the village must appropriate funds to be eligible to apply for ITEP grant funding that could cover up to $3,000,000 of eligible construction costs. "So that makes it eligible... if awarded, ITEP will cover approximately 50% of the construction cost up to a maximum of $3,000,000," Akins said. The board approved the resolution on roll call.
Staff said phase 1 engineering is delayed about a year with construction not anticipated until 2028–2029; the measure authorizes the village to pursue grants and coordinate village responsibilities such as utility relocations and signal upgrades.
