Shorewood awards $17.998 million contract for new pumping station and 5M-gallon reservoir

The Village of Shorewood board approved awarding the pumping and receiving station and underground reservoir contract to Joseph J. Henderson & Son for $17,998,400.
Public Works Director Nuria described the project as part of Shorewood's alternate-source water program: the station will include four high-service pumps, upgraded SCADA controls and a 5,000,000-gallon Horton Place reservoir. ``This will allow staff time to work out the bugs, make sure that the system's operating in an efficient manner, and actually have and build knowledge and experience with our staff before we get lake water here,'' Nuria said.
Trustees questioned bonding requirements, bid bonds and how initial lake-water flushing would be handled. Staff said the design team is developing a flushing and cleaning plan, that pipes will be flushed, chlorinated and sampled in sections, and that the project must meet IEPA SRF loan process requirements before construction starts. The contract award passed by roll call.
