The Shorewood Police Department Pension Fund voted unanimously on May 24 to approve a non-duty disability pension for Officer Jeffrey Calafos, with an effective date of Aug. 15, 2025. The board recorded the vote as 5-0 in favor, following a recommendation from the pension fund attorney, Rick Reimer.
Board members said they relied on materials distributed for the hearing, including the fund application for disability benefits and three doctors' notes confirming Calafos' disability, as well as a Village of Shorewood Finance Department email stating Calafos' most up-to-date salary as $109,671. The motion to approve was made by Kim Giugler and seconded by Detective Kevin Frazier; the roll-call vote recorded Drey-yea, Frazier-yea, Hertzman-yea, Giugler-yea and Butcher-yea.
There was no public comment recorded during the public hearing portion, and the board noted that no executive session was required. The board also approved procedural motions earlier in the meeting to enter Calafos' salary into the record before taking the pension vote. The emergency hearing concluded with a motion to adjourn at 12:45 p.m.
