Airport Gives Timeline for EV Chargers and Explains Pricing; Enforcement, Availability Still Being Finalized

Airport communications staff said the new Level 2 chargers in Parking Lot B will be activated after final testing and commissioning; drivers will start a session using the ChargePoint app, pay for electricity used plus a flat fee of about $1 per session, and also pay standard parking rates (currently $26/day).
"The process is, of course, designed to be very straightforward," Jake said, explaining expected session costs from roughly $10–$30 depending on vehicle and time of day and noting there is no maximum charging time or requirement to move a vehicle after charging. Jake said PSP will monitor usage in real time and may open or close charger spaces depending on demand.
Commissioners pressed staff about enforcement of non-EV vehicles occupying charger bays. Staff explained California law requires signage to support citations and that the city will process citations; the airport's landscape department will be involved in enforcement. The commission also discussed whether some charger locations might be temporarily converted to standard parking during periods of high demand.
