Palm Springs Airport to Close Escalators for August Mobilization; Staff Promises Limited Public Disruption

Project manager Harman Singh told commissioners the escalator replacement project will mobilize in the second week of August. "We did all the details about how the lay down area would be, what's the path of travel," Singh said, adding the work is on schedule for completion in September. Commissioners urged robust passenger messaging; operations staff committed to two weeks of signage inside the terminal and courtyards and a banner on the airport website before closure begins.
Commissioners also raised staffing and customer-service concerns for the summer heat and asked for close monitoring of the red-shirt operations staff assigned to assist travelers. The chair said signage and active oversight are essential so the advertised assistance meets passenger expectations.
