Council directs staff to explore foreclosure of abatement liens on three properties

Mayor Johann Wallace said the Town has repeatedly spent money remediating hazardous conditions on three properties — 217 Pima St., 303 Apache St. and 103 Tomahawk — and asked whether foreclosure on abatement liens could reimburse those costs.
Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez said foreclosure is a complicated process that would itself cost money and that the properties "may not be worth the cost," but noted the Town had already spent $16,000 on 217 Pima. Council moved to have staff explore the foreclosure option (motion by Johann Wallace, seconded by Cynthia Butterworth) and the motion passed unanimously.
