Deborah Trujillo, director of Santa Fe’s Environmental Services Division, told the Public Works and Utilities Committee the division comprises about 67 employees organized into four sections: administration/customer service (including mechanics), commercial collection, residential recycling (combined with commercial recycling), and residential refuse operations. Trujillo said residential collections run Monday through Thursday and the division averages "about 16,000 to 18,000 cart tips per day."
Trujillo outlined household equipment and fees: a standard 96-gallon green trash cart and a 64-gallon blue recycling cart are issued; residents may request an additional cart for $12 more per month while extra recycling carts are free. The division bills a base fee of $23.10 monthly on utility bills; other charges noted in the presentation included an $8-cubic-yard limit for large-item pickups for $50 (with $10 for any additional) and a $60 replacement fee for carts damaged by resident misuse. Trujillo also described special-assistance routes for elderly or mobility-restricted residents and said the division has its own one-bay mechanic shop while a planned new ESD Operations Building will include a six-bay mechanic shop.
