Council presses staff for scenarios moving CCPD detectives into general fund
Summary
Council asked staff for side‑by‑side projections showing the budget impact of moving one, two or all three detectives currently paid by the Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD) into the city's general fund; staff confirmed CCPD carries $3,324,188 and said the council would be provided with comparative scenarios.

Councilors asked staff to provide explicit comparisons showing the fiscal effect of returning detectives funded by the CCPD to the general fund.
Staff confirmed CCPD was carrying three detective positions and that CCPD funds totaled roughly $3,324,188; staff said moving two detectives back to the general fund was likely feasible under the voter‑approval rate scenario but noted the overall general fund remained out of balance by an estimated $375,000 in the current draft. Council requested a PDF showing the different scenarios (0,1,2,3 detectives moved) for both the general fund and the CCPD fund.
"So we would really need to subtract that from the $1.18 because the $1.18 isn't just extra money," a councilor said during the discussion; staff agreed to email the requested comparisons by Thursday and to prepare guidance for the next meeting.
