The Boston City Council Committee on Planning, Development, and Transportation held a virtual confirmation hearing Aug. 4 for Felicia Jacques, the mayor’s nominee to the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) board. Chair Councilor Dorkin opened the hearing and identified docket 1316 as the nomination matter, saying the seat’s term would expire on 2029-08-15.
Jacques introduced herself as a Boston resident since 1995 with a career in affordable-housing development and said her resume reflects experience in developing "thousands of affordable units" across Massachusetts and other cities. "My name is Felicia Jacques, and I've been a resident of Boston since 1995," she said. Councilors Ed Flynn, Erin Murphy and Ben Weber offered brief endorsements during opening remarks.
Why it matters: The BPDA board is the city’s primary body for reviewing major development proposals, zoning-related actions and planning decisions. Committee members framed Jacques’s confirmation as consequential for housing production, neighborhood preservation and the way the city weighs community input on major projects. Chair Dorkin and other members said they will schedule a committee vote at a future meeting to advance the nomination to the full council.
The hearing recorded letters of support and two absence letters in the record; no formal vote occurred during the Aug. 4 session. The committee adjourned after a brief tribute to local community leader Helen Cox and noting the nomination will be moved forward at the next meeting.
