The board approved an educational-services equity audit contract with Curriculum Management Solutions, Inc. to provide a curriculum-and-equity review intended to inform the district's strategic-planning process.
Staff (S4) described a comprehensive review the vendor would perform — visiting classrooms, interviewing staff, reviewing curriculum and policy, and producing a multi-section report addressing vision and accountability, curriculum, equity and consistency, assessment and feedback, and productivity. Several trustees pressed staff on how the vendor would ensure broad community input beyond in-district interviews, noting a historical tendency for more-affluent families to participate more readily. One trustee (S14) said, "As I reviewed the proposal, the input being sought much of it comes from within the district," and asked how the vendor would secure input from low-income and English-language–learning families.
During the motion process trustees corrected a clerical error: the contract amount was restated as $45,500 (staff had misstated $45,000). The corrected motion was moved and seconded and the board approved the contract by roll-call vote. Staff said the vendor will provide a full report in late fall and the findings will be used to shape strategic-plan outreach and subsequent community engagement.
