The board approved identified contractors and associated bids for the district’s Early Learning Center project after a presentation by the construction manager. The project was bid in nine packages; the construction manager reported competitive bids across site work, masonry, general trades, roofing, flooring, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical and electrical.
Construction manager Dave Torres said the total base bid was $12,897,722 and that approved alternates add $148,600, making the total recommended amount for approval $13,046,323. Trustees asked about minority- and women-owned business participation; the construction manager and district staff said they would follow up to identify BEP/WBE participation among selected subcontractors.
The motion to approve the contractors and associated bids passed on a board vote during the meeting. District leaders framed the approval as the point where the capital program “gets real,” and noted ancillary work (landscaping, signage) and shared therapy-room design that will accompany the project.
