Board hears first reading of policy updates tied to Title IX and employee ethics

At first reading, staff (S4) presented three policy amendments: two technical name updates connected to Title IX and a substantive clarification to employee ethics policy to address compensated tutoring.
Staff explained the Title IX updates are being held pending April guidance from PRESS/ISBE and said the district already has policies to support nondiscrimination and harassment complaints. On employee ethics, staff said the draft would prohibit district employees from soliciting or accepting compensated tutoring for students to whom they have direct responsibility and would require compensated tutoring to take place off district grounds; the draft also disclaims district liability for private tutoring arrangements.
Trustees asked about timing and how forthcoming federal or state guidance would affect content changes. Staff said changes are primarily name or designation updates now, and the board will revisit any content changes in April once updated legal guidance is available.
