The Manville City Council voted on Aug. 3 to set a preliminary tax rate for 2026 at $0.56 and scheduled a record public hearing on Sept. 21, 2026 at 6 p.m. in Manville City Hall. The mayor moved the motion and it received a second; the item requires the council to set a maximum allowable rate that cannot be exceeded later at adoption.
The clerk conducted a left-to-right roll-call vote. The mayor announced the result as a recorded vote; Councilman Albert voted no while other members voted in favor. The mayor read the motion: "I'll make a motion to set the preliminary tax rates for 2026 at 56¢ and to schedule the public hearing on 09/21/2026." The mayor later stated the motion passed in a "6 2 1" tally as read on the record.
Council members will hold the public hearing in September where members of the public can speak on the proposed rate and the council may later adopt a final rate at or below the preliminary amount.
