Skokie board reviews strategic-plan priorities, sets next steps with West 40

At a Feb. 3 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Board of Education for School District 69 (Skokie) worked with facilitator West 40 to revisit the district’s strategic-planning priorities and outline next steps in the process.
“Through structured reflection, the Board identified key strengths, barriers within the District's control, and strategic implications to guide the next phase of plan development,” the meeting record states. The Board reaffirmed the District’s Mission and Vision and discussed integrating the Essential Elements into four focus areas: Student Achievement, Learning Environment, Resource Management, and Family & Community Engagement.
Superintendent Dr. Margaret Clauson and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Megan Aseltine attended the session alongside West 40 professional learning specialists Nimisha Bhatt and Julie Morris. The Board examined early themes drawn from stakeholder surveys, focus groups, and district data, and members identified items the district can address directly versus issues requiring external partners or longer-term work.
Board members agreed that representatives will take the reflections to the Strategic Planning Committee and provide updates at future Board meetings. The committee scheduled a sequence of follow-up meetings, including Strategic Plan Committee sessions on Feb. 5, Feb. 19 and Feb. 26, 2026, at the Maier Administration Center.
