Skokie School District 69 informed the Board that it is participating in a multi-state lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education contesting non-continuation of the School-Based Mental Health (SBMH) grant. District officials said the litigation is ongoing.
Separately, the District received an SBMH award on Jan. 8, 2026 for approximately $140,000 covering Jan. 1 through Feb. 6, 2026. District staff reported they submitted all required documentation by Jan. 16, 2026 and that the funding will reimburse eligible staffing costs that otherwise would have shifted to local resources.
District officials framed the award as reimbursement for eligible expenses and said they expedited compliance to secure available funds while litigation continues.
