Prior to the vote, public commenters including Karina Marin and Roxie Biberian urged the Board to adopt the proclamation to help parents feel safe and included in district schools.
Supporters described the proclamation as a reaffirmation of existing district practices. Some board members pressed for language clarifying that the document does not create new legal protections or alter policy. The board discussion focused on ensuring the proclamation communicates support while distinguishing it from changes in district policy or legal obligations. Dr. Clauson noted the proclamation is intended as a statement of values and practice rather than new statutory rights.
