Board approves Gravel Worlds event permit; organizers expect nearly 2,000 participants and to raise funds for FFA

Lancaster County commissioners approved a special events permit Aug. 4 for Gravel Worlds, an annual bike and running festival organized by GoodLife Adventures LLC.
Applicant Jason Strobian told the board the event is entering its 17th year and expects nearly 2,000 participants. He described a 150-mile main event that includes professional riders and a 300-mile option that travels into Kansas; the event will be broadcast and includes an expo at the Sandhills Global Event Center. Strobian said Gravel Worlds will raise at least $20,000 for Future Farmers of America chapters and is partnering with local FFA chapters for on-course safety and community engagement. "We've kept the triathlon that'll be out at Branch Stoke... We'll have almost 2,000 participants again this year," Strobian said.
Commissioners moved to approve the permit after brief questions about public viewing and safety; board members and staff encouraged citizens to cheer on course marshals and volunteers. The motion carried on roll call.
