The Lancaster County Board of Equalization approved multiple tax-exemption recommendations Aug. 4, including a decision favorable to the Lincoln Trap & Skeet Club after representatives described the organization's youth programming, volunteer leadership and recent facility expansions.
Attorney Dave Turetsky, representing the applicant, thanked assessor staff for assistance and said the penalty assessed was preferable to paying full taxes. Club secretary Randy Raymond told the board the club was founded in 1930, is volunteer-run and hosts regional youth and college-level shooting events. "We're host to, as you can see in the data, a lot of high school kids... It's the premier shooting facility in the Midwest," Raymond said during testimony. The assessor's office explained penalties for late exemption filings are the lesser of 10% of tax owed or $100 per calendar month (or fraction thereof); staff noted most penalties end up $100.
