Glassport council hears sewer upgrades, 22-mile televising project estimated at $290,400

Glassport Borough Council received a detailed update Oct. 15 on sewer-system work that the borough says is meant to diagnose and fix longstanding collection-system problems.
Council President Anthony Colecchi, reading a report from Council Vice President Mark Stecak, said a contractor, Edge AI, is currently televising 22 miles of borough sewers but has encountered difficulty accessing some manholes and a 10-foot section of crushed pipe. "The cost of this project is $290,400," Colecchi said. Council was also told that a diffuser-replacement project at the wastewater plant is nearly finished and that the aeration-tank bypass went smoothly.
Council was informed that the borough advertised replacement of a channeling wall at the wastewater treatment plant in the Mon Valley Independent on Sept. 25; bids will be opened Oct. 18 in council chambers and the project is scheduled for award Nov. 19. The sewer-related reports were presented during the committee reports portion of the meeting and no formal council vote was taken on contracting during the Oct. 15 session.
The update included figures on delinquent-tax and sewage collections presented by Councilman Angelo Norelli: MBM Collections reported $15,990.77 collected in September and $196,375.09 year-to-date in delinquent real-estate collections; delinquent sewage collections for September were $77,849.50 with a year-to-date total of $334,005.44.
Council members did not vote on new appropriations at the meeting; staff and council indicated procurement steps (bid opening and award dates) that will bring formal contracting decisions back to council.
