Lancaster County board approves $23.26 million, four-year medical services contract for jail

Lancaster County commissioners voted Aug. 4 to award a four-year contract to Wellpath to provide medical and mental-health services at the Lancaster County Adult Correctional Facility, with an estimated total cost of $23,262,134.
Brad Johnson, director of the Lancaster County Department of Corrections, told the board the contract covers “all the medical care” for people in custody, including evaluation and treatment for mental-health needs and supervision of medications. "Yesterday, our population was 725," he said, noting the jail’s population fluctuates and that many individuals arrive with serious medical or behavioral-health issues. Johnson said the county did an RFP process and Wellpath scored highest in that review.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for the procurement work and moved to approve the award. A roll-call vote was held and the motion carried. The contract is structured as a four-year term; the board did not discuss in detail additional performance metrics or reporting deadlines during the public motion and vote.
