Reinbeck keeps 2026 employee health plans despite 7% Wellmark increase

At the Jan. 5 meeting, the Reinbeck City Council voted 5-0 to keep the city's current employee health insurance options and the existing HSA contribution schedule for 2026.
Marc White presented the options to the council and noted, "The current Bronze & Silver plans with Wellmark BCBS have an increase of 7%." Council members discussed UnitedHealthcare alternatives but concluded those plans were substantially higher. Councilmember Trepp moved to retain the existing plans and HSA payments; Councilmember Johnson seconded and the motion carried with five ayes.
The decision maintains continuity for city employees while the council and staff consider long-term benefits strategy. No immediate change to employee contributions or plan design was directed at the meeting.
