Shorewood police announce Oct. 19 fundraiser and zero‑tolerance enforcement of electric scooters

Deputy Chief Eric Allen told the Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Sept. 26 that Shorewood police are organizing a fundraiser, 'Men That Cook,' scheduled for Oct. 19, 2024, at Joliet Junior College’s Weitendorf Agricultural Center to raise funds for officers and the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center. According to minutes, the Cook‑off supports the county center, which responds to reports of sexual abuse, exploitation and other serious crimes involving children.
Allen also described enforcement actions taken this summer against electric motorcycles and scooters that are often not street legal and ridden by unlicensed operators, many under age 16. The department implemented a zero‑tolerance policy that includes citations and towing; the minutes record that citations have been issued to riders and in some cases to parents, and some bikes have been towed.
