Turning Point seeks to expand rural peer recovery outreach in Jamaica

Matthew Barlow, rural outreach coordinator with Turning Point (based in Brattleboro), told the Select Board the nonprofit provides peer‑supported addiction recovery services and is working to expand outreach into northern Windham County.
“Peer supported addiction recovery is proven through the literature to be the most effective way to recover from any kind of addiction,” Barlow said, describing Turning Point’s role as a confidential connector to treatment, benefit support and coaching. He said many of Turning Point’s basic services are free, that the organization has relationships across county services, and that he is pursuing grants to fund expanded outreach days in smaller towns.
Board members welcomed printed or digital flyers for the town website and parking areas, and discussed ways the town could help advertise upcoming outreach visits. Barlow said Jamaica is a strong candidate for in‑town outreach once funding and staffing are in place.
