District 3 official urges more frequent meetings, hybrid options for boards and commissions

Jordan Moldau (District 3) used public comment time to thank staff for placing the boards-and-commissions item on the agenda and to press for changes to the staff recommendation on meeting frequency.
"That seems way too infrequent as a default meeting frequency," Moldau said, referencing the staff recommendation to move commissions to a default frequency of "once 0.25." Moldau argued the default should be to meet more often, with the option to meet less frequently if a board demonstrates it can operate with fewer meetings.
In open forum later in the meeting Moldau also raised SB 707, saying it contains optional provisions that would allow advisory committees without decision-making authority to meet remotely. "As a chair of a commission, I feel like this is a useful thing... we'd also like to ideally recruit people from the outer reaches of San Jose," Moldau said, advocating a hybrid option for commissioners so the public still has access while increasing participation from farther neighborhoods.
No committee motion to change the staff recommendation was recorded during this meeting; Moldau's remarks were heard during public comment and open forum.
