Senator Jackson presented Senate Bill 16-40 to expand the Safe Home program administered by the Secretary of State that provides substitute addresses to victims of domestic violence and other crimes. The bill would add adult siblings living in the same household as an eligible co-applicant and clarifies that an order of protection from another state qualifies for the program; it also adds persistent domestic-violence offenders registries among disqualifying registries.
Jackson said the change improves protections for victims whose abusers might search public records of close relatives to locate a survivor. The committee approved SB16-40 by roll-call vote and moved the bill to the committee calendar for further consideration.
