The Skokie School District 68 board approved the Highland Elementary renovation contract at its Dec. 19 meeting, authorizing the project with the bid figures presented to the board. The agenda listed the construction amount as $8,103,074; staff explained the base bid and alternates, saying the "base bid was $8,403,004.74" while noting some elements (fees, contingencies) could change the final contract amount. Kenya, who presented bid details, said Ladestro was the lowest responsible bidder for the general trade.
"Ladestro won that as the lowest responsible bidder," Kenya said, describing bidder turnout across trades and tight competition in HVAC and electrical categories. Board members discussed geothermal and HVAC options and asked about access to bid openings; staff said pre-bid meetings occurred Nov. 14 and the district held a public bid opening. The motion to approve passed and the board will proceed with contract administration and project scheduling.
