Prior owner urges reuse of barn wood and protection of mature madrone

Jody Carson, who owned the barn before it was moved to its current lot, testified in support of the applicants but urged careful conservation of original material and landscape features. "I would really encourage them to do everything they can to save that because it's a really wonderful old tree," Carson said, referring to a mature madrone adjacent to the proposed addition.
Carson also encouraged the reuse of the larger original barn doors and the older boards recovered when the structure was moved in 1993, noting neighborhood volunteers helped reconstruct the barn and that much of the wood is original. The board acknowledged those requests and discussed decorative reuse of doors and careful siting during final plan review, but did not make a specific preservation condition beyond the general approval.
