The McKinney Historic Preservation Advisory Board unanimously approved three historic marker applications and a Level 1 historic marker tax-exemption for 1306 North Waddell Street at its May 7 meeting.
Reina Allen, who presented the nominations and incentive request on behalf of property owners, described the Muse House at 1306 North Waddell Street as “the Muse House and the site of the Muse Academy, which was constructed around 1858 to 1859” and noted the property’s high priority rating and character-defining features. Board members also approved marker applications for 1211 West Hunt Street and the routine consent agenda, all by unanimous votes.
The tax-exemption request for the Muse House met Level 1 criteria according to staff: the property holds a historic marker and the applicants demonstrated a minimum investment in rehabilitation. Allen said the application documents show eligible work totaling “over $180,321 for eligible, improvements.” Board members moved and seconded the items in sequence and cast unanimous votes on each motion.
The board heard no public comments on non-hearing items, thanked property owners who attended, and adjourned at 5:43 p.m.
