Randy and Michelle Thompson approached the council during the Feb. 2 meeting seeking reimbursement for basement damage caused by a sewer backup. Council members informed them that the homeowner is responsible for the sewer lateral; because the Thompsons’ basement is deep the council advised installing a pump or private lift station and re-tapping into the main from the top rather than the side.
The minutes state CIT will re-inspect the city sewer line on Wednesday to determine whether slip-lining the city line might improve drainage. The council did not approve any reimbursement in the minutes.
