The Reinbeck City Council voted on Feb. 2 to raise the library’s FY2027 budget to $165,000 after library representatives said an earlier-approved $140,000 allocation would not cover anticipated expenses. Councilmember Pease moved to approve the increase; the motion passed on a roll call vote — Wambold, Pease, Johnson, Trepp and Bueghly voted aye.
Library leadership told the council they would reduce proposed staff salary increases to 2.8 percent to help close the gap. City officials noted the General Fund is already at the $8.50500 maximum rate allowed, so the additional expense cannot be covered by raising local revenue; the council estimated a roughly $65,000 shortfall that will be taken from General Fund reserves. The council said the Capital Improvement Plan process will explore longer-term revenue and expenditure options.
