The Strategic Plan Committee of the Board of Education for Skokie SD 69 met Feb. 5, 2026, to begin the refinement phase of the district20262031 strategic plan. Board Secretary Kristyn Bair called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. in the Maier Administration Center Board Room; Superintendent Dr. Margaret Clauson and district staff attended alongside teachers, principals, parents and facilitators from West40.
Guided by facilitators from West40, committee members reviewed stakeholder feedback from surveys, focus groups, district data and emerging educational trends to clarify priorities across four focus areas: Student Achievement; Learning Environment; Resource Management; and Family & Community Engagement. The committee noted community calls for greater consistency and alignment across systems, "expanded whole-child supports that balance academic rigor with social-emotional wellbeing," calmer and more predictable learning environments to strengthen belonging, and a need for deeper communication and partnership with families, staff and community organizations.
Members affirmed that the districtGuiding Principles remain aligned with goals of equity, communication and continuous improvement but identified opportunities to make those commitments more actionable, elevating mental-health supports and literacy goals and clarifying expectations for consistent implementation. The committee directed staff and West40 to continue drafting recommended language and implementation steps for review at upcoming committee meetings.
The board will continue the strategic-plan refinement at scheduled committee meetings Feb. 19 and Feb. 26, 2026; the regular Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026.
