Council approves purchase of river rescue craft designed for Chattahoochee conditions

Staff (speaker 11/Greg) asked council to approve a previously-budgeted purchase of an inflatable-style rescue craft with a shallow, welded tri-hull and a Kevlar bottom designed to operate in the Chattahoochee River’s shallow, rock- and sand-shoal environment.
"This particular craft is well designed for operation in the Chattahoochee River," staff said, noting the vehicle is similar to one already used by the city of Milton and is sized to respond along the city’s boat-ramps and parks. Staff said funding was already allocated in the current fiscal-year budget and that a security deposit would secure the order pending final approval.
Council thanked staff for proactive planning; the motion to complete the budgeted purchase passed unanimously. Staff said the purchase should improve emergency response capacity as recreational use of Riverlands Park and other boat-ramps increases.
