Taryn Bolton, the Parks & Recreation liaison, told the Visit McKinney board the Parks Department's request to submit a $500,000 grant for Whatley Park pavilion repairs and renovations was approved by the Parks board and will move forward to City Council for consideration. Bolton said a large portion of anticipated requests this year will address ADA compliance at existing parks.
Deborah Bradford of MCDC updated the board on grant timelines: applications for the final promotional and community event grant cycle are due Friday, May 29, and retail infrastructure grant applications will be accepted through July. Bradford said MCDC has contributed approximately $158,000,000 over 30 years and $25,000,000 toward current projects; Parks anticipates requesting $1,000,000 from MCDC this year to finish existing projects before starting new ones.
Board members did not vote on the park grant in this meeting; the Parks board approved submission and staff will present it to council for final action.
