The City Council approved Resolution 74, Series 2026, to provide a focused preservation and restoration grant of up to $15,000 and an extraordinary circumstances grant of up to $22,300 for the James House at 700 Pine Street, for a combined recommended grant of up to $37,300. Senior planner Jess Daniels explained eligible work, cost estimates and the Historic Preservation Commission’s findings supporting the request.
Daniels said eligible items include window and exterior door replacement and siding restoration; the HPC found temporary shoring and foundation work eligible under extraordinary circumstances, which informed the $22,300 cap. Neighbor Joe Rangel raised concerns about excavation and possible foundation impacts to the adjacent house; owner Aaron Vogelsberg said the house is his family’s primary residence and that they intend to rehabilitate it with sensitivity to neighbors. The council voted to approve the grants as recommended by HPC and staff.
